FINE ART
Looking at the work of Marie Essenberg, it is easy to feel that she is being pulled from within to be about the beauty of the earth and express all that it has to offer. No matter what medium is used, Marie accomplishes bringing out the characteristics of nature, preserving it forever.

Mediums used to create realistic paintings and drawings
- Oil - Rich color, depth and detail is obtained with oil paints on canvas, as in the pet portrait of the Rottweiler created in the shadow image style that Marie branded 30 years ago. The solid mass of this dog is evident showing it's strength and dominance. But what makes this animal really come to life is the eyes, revealing it's gentleness. Creating life-like eyes is Marie's trademark.
- Pencil- Portraits done in pencil are much quicker and cost less, but they don't lack the detail. This drawing of a grandchild is a good example of how the character and personality is captured with any medium Marie uses - and you can see the likeness compared with the photo of the child.
- Pastel - The full thick fur of Herbie the cat, makes you want to just sink your fingers in and feel it's softness. Pastel allows this soft realistic look in a drawing of an animal giving it depth and dimension.
- Colored Pencil- God never created anything so unique as He did flowers, each has it's own beauty and variation, and Marie wants to draw all of them. The white Cala Lily is an example of just how beautiful a flower is when captured up close.
- Watercolors- Sometimes a subject matter needs a lighter, airy feel and that's when watercolors can be used.
- Pen and Ink- This medium is great for illustration work whenever fine detail is needed on a black and white piece, such as a book or magazine. Although the illustrations often are colored electronically for multi-media purposes.
